As one of the first areas of the island to get public railways, the choice of Belfast - Dublin - Enniskillen as a geographical area for a study into railway politics as
appropriate.
The author sets out the historical background of railed transport on the island from the 18th century and the development of railway proposals and lines in the area
under review. The impact of railway ‘politics’ - ‘politics’ in the sense of office politics - whereby someone would agree to something in return for something else
(openly or covertly) or oppose something in the absence of an inducement or if they felt that someone else was getting something, is interwoven throughout the
narrative.
The author has researched the matter well and as a brief narrative on what is ultimately a very complex and diverse subject matter, he has done well.
